Formula 1: Almost Everyone is Rooting for Hamilton to Succeed

All eyes will be on Lewis Hamilton, as he embarks on a new journey with Ferrari this upcoming 2025 campaign, which will start next month. The seven-time Formula 1 champion has already been with the Prancing Horse for two months, and it has been a fun ride thus far. Hamilton may not be favoured to win his eighth world championship this season. But, despite the unfavourable SBOTOP Formula 1 2025 odds, many of his colleagues are rooting for him to succeed.

Williams recently launched their machine for 2025, and Carlos Sainz Jr. – their marquee acquisition this year – is giddy with his new car. Meanwhile, Red Bull team principal Christian Horner doesn’t sound too happy with the incessant rumours about his top driver Max Verstappen.

We’re one month away from the first race of the season – the Australian Grand Prix. For now, continue reading below for the latest Formula 1 2025 updates.

Whirlwind first few weeks for Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton couldn’t hide his excitement when he transferred to Ferrari, but his first act in Ferrari gear didn’t exactly go as planned. During a private test in Catalunya two weeks ago, Hamilton crashed during the second testing day. According to reports, the 40-year-old ran off the circuit and hit the barriers. He was using a modified version of the SF-23 at the time (the team’s 2023 machine), and thankfully he wasn’t hurt.

It’s not the first time this has happened to Hamilton. Before his rookie season with McLaren in 2007, he was involved in a high-speed crash in Valencia. In February 2013, he also crashed his Mercedes on his first day of testing in Jerez de la Frontera.

Ferrari are trying to give Hamilton and Charles Leclerc as much track time as possible to get a feel for their cars before they open their 2025 campaigns in Albert Park. After taking part in a Pirelli tyre test in Catalunya last week, Hamilton and Leclerc will drive their newly launched Ferrari machines for the first time next week at the Fiorano track in Italy. After that, Ferrari and the other nine Formula 1 teams will partake in three days of preseason testing in Bahrain from February 26 to 28 before heading to Australia.

Sainz bares excitement with Williams project

Williams recently unveiled the FW47 car during a promotional event in Silverstone, and Carlos Sainz Jr. drove it for the first time last Friday. The former Ferrari driver had a positive first impression of the car and said he felt highly motivated after driving it for the first time.

“I think this is a good show of Williams’ progress, to be bold enough to prepare a test where all of our partners are here, all the media is invited to see the first laps of the car,” the Spaniard told reporters.

“It shows the trust that Williams has in their new tools to produce a car that is going to be here on time, is going to be working well like it did today without any issues and I think it’s a good sign,” he added.

Sainz’s mettle will be tested this season, as he moves to an inferior team after spending the last four seasons with Ferrari. The 30-year-old driver is a four-time Grand Prix winner, including two last season, and he left the Scuderia reluctantly with Lewis Hamilton replacing him. He and Alex Albon face the daunting task of making Williams, the second-worst team last year, relevant again.

Horner denies wild Verstappen exit rumours

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has broken his silence after rumours that Max Verstappen may leave the Milton Keynes outfit at the end of the 2025 Formula 1 campaign, despite being under contract until 2028. Verstappen, who completed a four-peat last season, has been linked to a potential transfer to Aston Martin in a deal worth roughly £1 billion.

“Every team is going to show interest in him because he is the exceptional talent that we all know, so you can only imagine he would be at the top of every team’s list. There was a lot of noise. And usually, when the noise is so public, it tends to be (less believable),” Horner explained.

Speculation about Verstappen’s future has gained traction after Horner confirmed that the Dutchman’s contract has a “performance element” potentially allowing him to leave Red Bull before 2028. It is also rumoured that Verstappen will be free to trigger an exit clause if he finishes lower than third in the Drivers’ Championship after a significant part of the F1 2025 season has been completed.
