Premier League: How Soon Can Liverpool Win the Title?

With a 13 point lead at the top of the Premier League, and just 11 games for their rivals to play, Liverpool’s march to the title looks set to be a procession; unless we see one of the biggest meltdowns in football history.

Let’s face it; it’s not going to happen and the Premier League 2025 betting odds are getting closer to shutting the book by the week, with the only real threat, Arsenal, out at SBOTOP odds of around 30.00. Should Arne Slot’s Reds merely keep pace with the Gunners they will win the title with four games to play. In short; seven more victories would ensure nobody can catch Liverpool and that would need the Gunners to win all 11 of their remaining games… not impossible but unlikely.

Mohamed Salah is leading the Premier League Golden Boot race with 25 goals so far

From the moment Slot’s Reds swatted away Manchester City two weeks ago it seemed the writing was on the wall for Liverpool’s rivals when the league’s leading scorer Mo Salah scored the opener. The Egyptian maestro is having yet another stratospheric season, scoring 25 goals, five more than his nearest rival Erling Haaland and he’s made 17 assists, seven more than Brentford’s Mikkel Damsgaard. This is a team every bit as good as the 2020 title winners and, captained by Virgil van Dijk they have world class talent from back to front. The return to form of Trent Alexander-Arnold, and the emergence of the likes of Cody Gakpo and Curtis Jones have strengthened what was already a very good side.

Liverpool fans are in dreamland and I suspect things will only get better.

Ten to play…where are the risks?

A second Premier League title in five years is within Liverpool’s grasp and they have two other competitions on the boil too. The Reds have a blockbuster Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain to look forward to, starting this week with the first leg at the Parc des Princes in Paris; and they are in the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United in two weeks’ time. Slot’s men are strong favourites to beat the Magpies and to open the trophy cabinet so soon will be a confidence booster. Should Liverpool slip up in the cup and struggle against the dangerous Parisiens could that possibly cause a wobble?

It’s probably the Gunners’ best hope.

If Liverpool and Arsenal match each other stride for stride then a win away at Chelsea on the third of May looks to be the likely celebration date for the Merseysiders but, should the Reds allow Mikel Arteta’s team to nudge a little closer, then there will be a blockbuster clash at Anfield when Arsenal make the trip north the following week. And then, let’s say Arsenal beat Liverpool on that day there will be two games left. Liverpool’s last two matches are against Brighton and Hove Albion and then Crystal Palace and, while neither are a pushover, Liverpool would surely get over the line.

If Slot’s men gather momentum and keep churning out the Premier League 2025 results they could win the title next month, but where could they come unstuck along the way?

I can’t see a slip up next week in the top versus bottom clash when Southampton visit Anfield. The hapless Saints are on a paltry nine points, as likely to finish 20th as the Reds are to finish first, a mammoth 58 points behind the league leaders and 13 from safety. Arsenal are away to Manchester United next week by the way and, while the Red Devils are having a shocking season, there is no love lost between the two clubs and the Old Trafford crowd will make it as uncomfortable as possible for the Gunners.

After the Carabao Cup final Liverpool have a tasty clash in the Merseyside Derby against David Moyes’ rapidly improving Everton. The neighbours met just three weeks ago in a bad tempered match which saw both teams finish the game with ten men after James Tarkowski scored a 98th minute leveller to earn the Toffees a 2-2 draw.

Then Liverpool travel to Fulham to face Marco Silva’s Europe chasers before entertaining West Ham United, who have had a poor season and currently sit in 15th. Leicester City are the Reds’ next opponents and that shouldn’t be too much of a problem. The Foxes are in 19th and have lost 11 of their last 12 league games and look destined to join Southampton in the Championship. Liverpool’s last April fixture is at home to Tottenham Hotspur and I have a sneaking feeling that could be the day the celebrations start. And if Slot can confirm his first league title at Anfield that would be the perfect ending for the Dutch master.
