Brighton & Hove Albion vs Arsenal
Premier League leaders Arsenal are heading south on Wednesday in the hope of keeping their lead at the top of the league table intact, but they will meet a Brighton and Hove Albion side which has just woken up from a mid season slumber.
Holidaymakers flock to the coastal resorts of Brighton and Hove when the sun comes out in the summer, but the hazard of swooping Seagulls targeting your tray of chips is never far away! And Mikel Arteta’s side must be wary of Fabian Hurzeler’s team which has just picked up back to back wins and is targeting a top half place.
Brighton beat Nottingham Forest on Saturday while Arsenal saw off top four hopefuls Chelsea on Sunday and, with Manchester City playing at home to struggling Forest on Wednesday night the Gunners desperately need all three points at the Amex; but their visit to the South Coast will be as far from a relaxing holiday break as you could imagine.
Talking Points
Seagulls may have turned a corner

After stumbling through a run of six matches without a victory, Brighton have recorded wins over Brentford, and then Nottingham Forest to climb to 11th in the table and three points from a possible European place. They narrowly missed out on a European trip last season with an eighth placed finish but that spot may well qualify this time around.
Having won away to Brentford the Seagulls looked full of confidence against Nottingham Forest and goals from Diego Gomez and Danny Welbeck won the day; though, with seven shots on target, the margin could have been higher than the 2-1 result. The 35 year old Welbeck has been a revelation this season and, having also scored against the Bees, he has made it ten goals for this season and sits joint sixth in the list of Premier League top scorers. And Welbeck is not the only golden oldie still strutting his stuff in Brighton. The 40 year old midfielder James Milner has recently become the longest standing player in Premier League history, with 655 appearances and counting.
The Seagulls have plenty of experience in their ranks, with the centre back and captain Lewis Dunk marshalling the defence and Germany midfielder Pascal Gross back in the fold after a season at Borussia Dortmund.
Gunners can’t afford another stalemate
Draws away to Brentford and Wolverhampton Wanderers have allowed Manchester City, who have dropped plenty of unexpected points themselves, to stay on Arsenal’s coat-tails and, with ten games to play the stakes are increasing week on week.
With five points more than City and a better goal difference of four, the Gunners are still in charge, and the latest Premier league 2026 betting odds are still behind Arteta’s men. But that could all change quickly and, if the Sky Blues do close that points gap then the goal difference will disappear too. Draw or lose in the Amex Stadium, assuming City beat Forest, then the Sky Blues’ game in hand could take them top, with the two teams still set to collide at the Etihad Stadium.
So another draw, down on the South Coast, is not exactly on Arteta’s wish-list.
His team showed how good at set-pieces it is, yet again, against Chelsea, as defenders William Saliba and Jurrien Timber breached the Blues’ defence with Arsenal’s 15th and 16th goals for corners this season, and that is Arteta’s biggest weapon, which Brighton’s Dunk will be well aware of.
History
In terms of head to head results, Arsenal have won ten, drawn five and lost six of their 21 meetings with Brighton, while at the Amex Stadium the Gunners have done slightly better, with five victories, three draws and two losses. When the two teams met at the Emirates in December Arsenal won 2-1 but the meeting at the Amex last season ended in a 1-1 draw.
Brighton have won just two of their last six games, but the victories were their most recent two outings and that means they come into the clash in high spirits. The Gunners have won four and drawn two of their last six games and have been superbly consistent throughout the campaign, fighting well on four fronts.
Betting Tip
Brighton are at SBOTOP odds of 5.00 to win this clash with the draw at 3.95 and Arsenal the hot favourites at 1.60. Had this game been two weeks ago I would have been more confident that the Gunners will be okay in Brighton, but a sharp upturn in the Seagulls’ Premier League 2026 results may well have come at the wrong time for the league leaders.
