Bundesliga: Bayern Plan to Raid the Black Forest

SC Freiburg vs Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich are on course to win their second consecutive Bundesliga title, and they will hope to beat SC Freiburg this weekend to be one step closer to achieving their top domestic objective this term. At 70 points, Vincent Kompany’s men have a nine-point cushion, which could be more at the end of Matchday 28.

Before the international break, Bayern Munich have gone undefeated in their last 12 matches across all competitions. They’re also deep into the DFB-Pokal and Champions League after defeating RB Leipzig in the quarter-finals and Atalanta in the Round of 16, respectively. So, a historic treble is in the cards.

SC Freiburg recently advanced to the Europa League quarter-finals after eliminating Genk, and Julian Schuster’s men won 2-1 against FC St. Pauli before the break. The Black Forest improved to eighth in the German top-flight standings with 37 points, at least eight points adrift of the European places.

Talking Points

SC Freiburg’s confidence is high

SC Freiburg recently secured a place in a European quarter-final for the first time in history after they overturned their first-leg deficit against Genk in the Europa League Round of 16. After losing 1-0 in the opener, Julian Schuster’s men returned home and demolished their Belgian Pro League counterparts with a 5-1 scoreline, with Matthias Ginter, Igor Matanovic, Vincenzo Grifo, Yuito Suzuki, and Maximillian Eggestein on the scoresheet.

The Black Forest followed it up with a 2-1 road win against FC St. Pauli in their last Bundesliga game before the international break. Matanovic overturned the team’s one-goal deficit by scoring a brace in the second half against his former team. The Croatian striker is now SC Freiburg’s top scorer with eight goals, and he also scored during his country’s 2-1 friendly win against Colombia in Orlando, Florida, last weekend.

There’s more good news for SC Freiburg, as their injury list has eased in the past few days, with only Max Rosenfelder (thigh) as their notable absentee. Schuster will have his pick of the litter against Bayern Munich, and will likely stick to what works.

Bayern Munich’s depth is slightly compromised

In stark contrast, Bayern Munich will be without several players against SC Freiburg, giving head coach Vincent Kompany a big lineup dilemma.

Nicolas Jackson will continue to serve his suspension, which he earned for his red card against Bayer Leverkusen. Youngsters Wisdom Mike (hip) and Cassiano Kiala (knee) are also absent, while veteran goalkeepers Sven Ulreich (golf) and Manuel Neuer (calf) remain in the medical room. Alphonso Davies (hamstring), Jamal Musiala (ankle), and David Santos Daiber (thigh) are doubts.

Harry Kane was not in the England squad for their 1-0 loss to Japan due to a knock. Head coach Thomas Tuchel downplayed Kane’s issue, so the Bundesliga Golden Boot frontrunner should be considered questionable.

History

Bayern Munich secured a 6-2 rout of SC Freiburg during their reverse fixture at the Allianz Arena last November. Yuito Suzuki and Johan Manzambi gave SC Freiburg an early two-goal lead before Lennart Karl and Michael Olise drew level at 2-2. But after the halftime break, the floodgates opened for Bayern Munich, as Dayot Upamecano, Harry Kane, and Nicolas Jackson scored, while Olise completed his brace late.

Since their surprising 2-2 draw in March 2024, SC Freiburg have been badly outclassed by Bayern Munich, losing to an aggregate tally of 10-3. The Black Forest’s most recent Bundesliga victory over Die Bayern was a 2-1 result in May 2015. But if you’re accounting for all competitions, SC Freiburg’s last win in this fixture was a 2-1 result during the 2022-23 DFB-Pokal quarter-finals.

Betting Tip

The Bundesliga 2026 odds predict Bayern Munich to complete another league double over SC Freiburg on Saturday. Bayern Munich are 1.36 favourites to take maximum points, whereas SC Freiburg are huge 6.20 underdogs, and a draw is at 4.82 in the 1X2 market.

Despite the lack of bona fide strikers in the lineup, Bayern Munich still boast enough firepower to see this through while creating new Bundesliga 2026 highlights in the process. Besides our recommended bet, SBOTOP bettors may also add Over 3.25 at 1.83, Over 3.50 at 2.03, Over 3.75 at 2.29, and Total Goals 4-6 at 2.30 to the parlay.

The First Half Correct Score of 2-2 – which happened in their previous league encounter – is a long shot at 65.00, while the Correct Score of 2-1 in favour of Bayern Munich – the result of this exact fixture last term – is on offer at 7.80.
